“Transfer credit” is a term used by colleges and universities to describe the process of granting credit toward a degree or certificate for educational experiences undertaken at another institution. Credit can be transferred from one college or university to another from CPL experiences, military experience, or through portfolios and other methods.
Each college or university makes its own decisions about accepting transfer credit. Be sure to review all transfer credit policies posted online by your college or university or discuss them with an academic adviser or admissions representative. There are often deadlines for submitting requests, and there is usually a limit to the number of credits that can be transferred.
